Using Zoom

Joining an online meeting or webinar will be new to many of us and  we will all have to do our best to make it work. Obviously you will need a computer - desktop or laptop with a webcam - or a smart phone.  It would be a good idea to install Zoom ahead of the meeting and then perhaps  'Join a Test Meeting' to learn a bit about your audio and video controls.    If you have time you may find it useful to visit the Zoom help pages and read the Quickstart guide for users and participants and in particular the Getting Started sections for either Desktop or Mobile.   There are also  video tutorials, e.g.  'Join a Meeting' and 'Joining & Configuring Audio and Video' which you may find helpful.

If you have registered for the AGM, you will be sent an email   prior to the meeting  from DCA@dinghycruising.org.uk which will invite you to join the meeting.  Similarly if you have registered for John Welsford's talk, you will receive a separate email with  an invitation to join that part of the meeting.

Instructions after receiving the email:
  1. Click the link in the email inviting you to join the meeting sometime in the 30 minutes prior to the advertised time.
  2. If you do not have Zoom installed, follow the  prompts to download and install the app.
  3.  You will then be in a "waiting room" and can take the opportunity to test your audio and video if you wish.
  4. When you are  admitted by the host you will have a preview of your video  . Click Join with Video.
  5. Click Join with Computer Audio.
  6.  On a desk or lap top you will normally find yourself in Gallery View which displays thumbnails of  up to 49  of the meeting participants  on your screen.   You can  click the side arrows to see  more of the participants. The host may set the default view to "Active Speaker" which means whoever is speaking will be in a larger window on your screen.
  7. The  host will have everyone muted to avoid people all talking at once.   You will be able to click the Raise Hand  button if you wish to speak    or ask a question.   It will also be possible to indicate agreement or disagreement using non-verbal feedback icons during the meeting.

Further instructions will be provided before the meeting.takes place.
